Mode of Action

DDVP inhibits acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme essential for nerve function. By disrupting the nervous system of insects, it causes paralysis and death.

Dichlorvos, also known as DDVP, is an organophosphate insecticide that functions by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase (AChE), an enzyme crucial for the proper functioning of the nervous system. Under normal conditions, AChE breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in nerve synapses. When dichlorvos inhibits AChE, acetylcholine accumulates, leading to continuous nerve signal transmission. This overstimulation disrupts normal neurological functions in insects, ultimately causing their death.
