Mode of Action of Linuron Herbicide (75% WDG)

Linuron is a pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicide used for broad-spectrum control of weeds in various crops. Its active ingredient is Linuron (75% water-dispersible granules). Linuron belongs to the phenylurea class of herbicides and operates through the following mechanism:

1. Mode of Action:
   Linuron is a photosynthesis inhibitor, targeting the photosystem II (PSII) pathway. It works by blocking the electron transport chain in chloroplasts, preventing the conversion of light energy into chemical energy. This disruption halts the production of ATP and NADPH, which are essential for plant growth and survival.
2. Absorption and Activity:
   • Linuron is absorbed by both the roots and leaves of weeds.
   • Pre-emergence: It inhibits the germination and early development of weed seedlings.
   • Post-emergence: It disrupts photosynthesis in actively growing weeds, leading to their gradual death.
3. Target Weeds:
   Linuron is effective against a wide range of broadleaf and grassy weeds, making it versatile for use in crops such as potatoes, carrots, and soybeans.
4. Selectivity:
   Linuron shows selectivity for certain crops, allowing it to target weeds without causing significant harm to the main crop, provided it is applied at recommended rates.
